The Descent into Essence
Fall equinox when the earth gathers her breath.
The light softens, roots deepen, and the sap flows inward.
What once bloomed upon the surface now offers its seeds to the womb of the earth not to be lost, but to ripen.
In this same rhythm, the soul is called to turn inward: to listen to what lives beneath the soil of consciousness, the stories of our ancestral line, the unspoken, the old agreements we kept in order to belong.
There, we meet the Shadow, not only what we struggle to love, but also the gifts we have not yet allowed ourselves to hold.
This movement inward is a katabasis, a deliberate descent into what is essential.
The descent of Persephone into the underworld is not punishment, but initiation.
The Maiden descends, tastes the seed of the pomegranate, accepts the rhythm of the earth, and returns as Queen, not the same, but transformed.
According to the Eleusinian Mysteries, descent (darkness, silence, root) and ascent (light, fruit, meaning) are two faces of the same cycle.
The “below” is not an enemy; it is the place where the seed breaks open to be born.
So it is with our inner seeds, all that we avoid in the subconscious: fears, vows, ancestral contracts, and hidden strengths become the treasure of our ripening.
The Shadow ceases to rule us from the dark and becomes the ground upon which we can finally stand.
In this workshop, we will learn to open a gentle, safe space for descent into the root.
Guided by olfactory memory and the aromatic intelligence of plants, we will map inner patterns, commune with our benevolent ancestors, honor the old agreements, and lay them to rest in the soil.
Beneath the visible lies information it is our DNA.
And all that we once kept hidden begins to return to the light, ready to bloom anew.
October reminds us of the rhythm of the earth that turning inward is not retreat but preparation for ripening.
It is the season of roots, of lineage, of what lies beneath.
It is the time to look upon the Shadow with tenderness and truth, like Persephone who knows the path of descent and return, so that we may move forward whole.
