Seeking the eternal, holy self.
An elaborate and ritually woven aromatic veil, like the crocus tunic described by Aristophanes in Lysistrata, dedicated by the Athenians to the goddess Athena and the goddess Artemis.
According to Greek mythology, the plant ‘crocus’ came into being when the god Hermes, playing in the meadows with his friend Crocus, unintentionally mortally wounded him in the head. When Crocus fell dead, three drops of his blood fell into the center of the flower and three blood-colored threads emerged. Since then, the flower has been associated with divine symbolism, carrying rare healing gifts.
Homer writes in the Iliad that when Zeus embraced Hera, crocuses grew around her, while elsewhere he mentions ‘Ios krokopeplo’ (I,1,T,1), likening the dawn to the yellow of the crocus.
